December Newsletter

Raffle Wrap-Up: The Club provided a list of all of the Sportsmen's Raffle Sponsors to the local newspapers. The Mount Vernon Voice published that list in a recent issue and we have re-sent a request to The Mount Vernon Gazette for publication. FHSA member point totals are being tabulated and will be published as soon as they are complete.

  • Annual FHSA Valentines Dance: This popular event is scheduled for Saturday, February 10th at the Mount Vernon Country Club. We'll have dinner, dancing and door prizes. Make plans now for this fun event. Cocktails go from 6:30 to 7:30; dinner 7:45 to 9:00 and dancing until 11:30. Our point-of-contact is Harry Shackelford and the cost is $60 per person - a great price for a fun evening. You can pay in advance for the event at the December or January membership meetings or make arrangements with Harry @ HShackelford1@cox.net.

  • Club Dues: Club dues for 2007 are up. Please provide $20 to our Sergeant-at-Arms, Frank Gulino, at any Membership Meeting or contact him at Yajoe@aol.com for details on how to get your dues to him. Dues go to administrative expenses and help subsidize events.

  • The December Membership Meeting is at Mike's Italian Restaurant on Route One on Thursday, December 14th (always the 2nd Thursday of the month). Cocktails at 7:00pm and Dinner at 8:00. Our speaker will be the head coach of the West Potomac Wolverines, Eric Henderson. The Wolverines had a great finish - winning six of their last seven games this year. Eric will provide the details and let us know what we can expect from the Wolverines next year.

  • FHSA Website: We're always looking for interesting club-related photos or submitted write-ups. Contact Scott Daley, our webmaster @ scott.daley@navy.mil if you have anything that you would like to see on the site. Check it for yourself; it's www.forthuntsportsmen.com

  • The 2006 FHSA Golf Tournament: The Golf Tournament at Fort Belvoir took place on October 26th and was a big success. Rick Genuario reported that participants had a lot of fun and the Club was able to raise money that will be added to our donation budget. We were treated to a great steak dinner, door prizes and a successful raffle after the golfing. Special thanks goes out to Rick for organizing, but more important was the beer cart hosted by Mary Hines and Shane Barry - they did a great job keeping the golfer's "enthusiasm" up!

  • Redskins Tailgate Party: Took place Sunday, November 5th at Fed Ex Field and was hosted by Robert Hines. Turnout was ‘less than expected', reported Robert, but those that attended had a great time. The food was good, spirits were high and by the end of the game, the Cowboys left defeated. All-in-all, not a bad day. To our FHSA Redskin ticket-holders out there, let's make more of an effort next year to make this a big Sportsmen's event. Thanks, Robert, for leading the charge on this event!

  • Personal: The Club's Board and Officers encourage your participation in our meetings and events. We would like to see more members participating in our membership meetings (second Thursday of each month) and at our annual events. Don't miss the Valentines Dance in February! Have a great Holiday this year!

    Thanks!

    Joe Gililland
