April 2007 Newsletter

The April Dinner Meeting: Will be tomorrow night, April 12th, at the Peking Duck on Route One in the Hybla Valley area. Please join us for a communal meal served family style. "The Duck" is a club favorite, so come on out. Drinks at 7:00, Dinner at 8:00.

  • Bob Beatty Award: We received the most nominations for the Bob Beatty Award this year than we have for many years. The Club would like to thank Richard McFarland for coordinating this effort again this year. The nominations for young athletes in the Fort Hunt area were outstanding and the Club Board definitely had a split vote. When the votes were tallied, we selected Mara Perscheid as the nominee that best represented the hard work and spirit of Bob Beatty. The Club will recognize Mara and has invited her whole family to join us at The Mount Vernon Country Club next month. We are also lining-up an excellent speaker and expect to see a big Sportsmen's turnout. The exact date is TBD, due to the speaker's schedule, but will be either Thursday, May 10th or Thursday, May 17th. Stand-by for more information on this big event. We'll pass along new information as soon as it is available.

  • The Nationals Tailgate Party: Will be Saturday, June 2nd against the San Diego Padres. It's a 7:05 pm game, so we will start gathering in Lot 8 in the late afternoon... more details to follow. Vicki Binkley has kindly offered to help fund the Tailgate Party again this year, making our only real costs the cost of the tickets. Cold beer, burgers and hot dogs will be served free to all Club members and guests. REMEMBER: This will be the last year for the Nationals at RFK. The new stadium will not have open lawn areas to have tailgates - Lot 8 will be a thing of the past! This year is your last chance!.......did I mention the free cold beer?

  • Redskins Season Tickets: We did not have to turn in any season tickets back to the Redskins, but it was close. The Club's members came through in the last minute and provided us with enough orders that we were safe. Thanks for rallying when we most needed you! Some of the season tickets have been broken-down into single game pairs, so stay tuned for Club announcements about ticket availability. Contact our reliable and hard-working club member, Frank Gulino at yajoe@aol.com for details.

  • FHSA Website: The Club's website has received numerous updates, so please click on the link below and take a look. We're always looking for interesting club-related photos or submitted write-ups. Contact Scott Daley, our webmaster @ scott.daley@navy.mil if you have anything that you would like to see on the site. Check the site for yourself; it's www.forthuntsportsmen.com

  • Personal: We are looking forward to the warming weather and the increasing activity for the Club. Please 'save the date' for the June 2nd Nationals Tailgate Party and enjoy the beautiful June weather, cold beer and sodas, great grilled food and the enjoyment and camaraderie of your fellow Club members and friends. The Club is always looking for new members - if you know of potential Club members, our monthly dinner meetings OR the Nationals Tailgate Party are the perfect opportunities to introduce them to the club and to some of the fun activities that we have. We're not too picky - Hey, they let me join!

    Thanks!
    Joe Gililland
