February 2007 Newsletter

The March Membership Meeting: Will be at Pema's, Thursday, March 8. Drinks will be from 7-8; and dinner at 8. Pema's is on Route 1 just south of Mike's. We hope to see you there.

  • Annual FHSA Valentines Dance: The Valentine's Dance at Mt. Vernon Country Club on February 10th was a big success! There was still a large crowd at 11:30 pm when we 'closed down the place' and the dance floor was filled for most of the night. We danced to rock, disco, oldies; line danced and even had a conga line which included nearly every guest in the place. Great door prizes were appreciated by all the winners.

Thanks to all that participated - and a special thanks to Harry Shackelford for collecting money and coordinating the event, Rick Genuario for working with MVCC, Robert Hines for arranging door prizes and for distributing the prizes, Craig & Leslie Maniglia for helping with set-up and getting gift bags arranged. It was a great group effort to make sure everything was smooth. Thanks, too, to our sponsors that contributed door prizes.

Please check our website, www.forthuntsportsmen.com for details and photos, once we have updated the website with the new shots.

  • 2007 Club Dues: Please provide $20 to our Sergeant-at-Arms, Frank Gulino, at any Membership Meeting or contact him at Yajoe@aol.com for details on how to get your dues to him. Dues go to administrative expenses and help subsidize events.

  • Publicity: Joe G. took photos at Valentine's Day Dance for inclusion on the website.

  • FHSA Website: The board approved by unanimous vote providing a $100 gift card as a thanks for all of Jason Hart's work on the Sportsmen's web site. We will be adding each of the most recent newsletters to the site as well as a Sportsmen's History with a listing of past presidents. Chick Little will search old files for this updating. There remains a need to keep the website current and we would like the Club's help. We're always looking for interesting club-related photos or submitted write-ups. Contact Scott Daley, our webmaster @ scott.daley@navy.mil if you have anything that you would like to see on the site. Check the site for yourself; it's www.forthuntsportsmen.com

  • Club Membership: The club needs new members. If you have friends and associates that would like to join the Club, please encourage them and get in contact with any Board member for an application. A draft membership directory is being reviewed and updated. The board will remind the club on a regular basis that we need to recruit more new members

  • Appreciation: A Thank You letter from West Potomac Crew was received for the donation made by the board to crew last year.

  • Golf Tournament 2007: The date will be on Friday, October 26, 2007. Rick Genuario will likely be our Tournament host again this year. We hope to see a larger turnout this year than in 2006.

  • Personal: Thanks to all of you who came out to the FHSA Valentine's Day Dance this year. Don't miss out on our fun and informal membership meetings every second Thursday of each month. The Club will 'pick-up' speed in the following months as our events increase - stay tuned!

    Thanks!
    Joe Gililland
    President, Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Association
