Bob Beatty Award: Richard McFarland is coordinating this effort again this year. We are looking for nominations of young athletes in the Fort Hunt Area that exemplify the hard work and spirit of Bob Beatty - former Fort Hunt Sportsmen's member.
The nominees will meet certain criteria and show qualities such as a dedication to sports, education and to giving back to the community. It gives our club a chance to recognize them and provides the young athletes with some positive attention. We need your nominations ASAP. Contact Richard at rmcfarland@dcscorp.com.
Redskins Season Tickets: You've seen the emails, you've heard the pleas. Since we have not been able to sell all of our season tickets, the Club is willing to break-down the season tickets into single game pairs, to make it easy for you to see a few games this season. Jason Campbell is back and should add some excitement to the Redskin's season this year. Last minute orders can still be taken, but the money is due this Wednesday, March 21st. Contact our reliable and hard-working club member, Frank Gulino at yajoe@aol.com for details... but do it quickly!
Annual FHSA Valentines Dance: Took place on Saturday, February 10th at the Mount Vernon Country Club. The smaller-than-average crowd enjoyed dinner, door prizes and dancing until 11:30. Most members & their wives will deny their participation in a rowdy conga line, but we have the pictures to prove it. A special thanks goes to Harry Shackelford for being the coordinator and overseer of a really fun and successful party. He promised a full, fun evening... and delivered. Don't miss out next year.
The Nationals Tailgate Party: Will be in June... possibly Saturday, June 2nd against the San Diego Padres - to be determined by the Board. It's a 7:05 pm game, so it fits the bill for what the Club is looking for... more to follow. Vicki Binkley has kindly offered to help fund the Tailgate Party again this year, our only real costs will be the cost of the tickets. Frank Gulino and Lee Gilmore will help us organize again this year. Cold canned and bottled beer will be served in lieu of foamy kegs. Dogs and burgers will rule the day.
The March Membership Meeting: was at Pema's on Route One. A good-sized Sportsmen's crowd came out in the snow and enjoyed their choice of two entrees. The wait staff did a great job taking care of the group. There were no reported injuries.
2007 Club Dues: Have mostly been collected. If you haven't received an email or USPS letter from our Sergeant-at-Arms, Frank Gulino, you're safe. If you've been contacted, email Frank at Yajoe@aol.com for details on how to get your dues to him. Dues go to administrative expenses and help subsidize events.
FHSA Website: We've had a big updating to the website, so please click on the link below and take a look. We're always looking for interesting club-related photos or submitted write-ups. Contact Scott Daley, our webmaster @ scott.daley@navy.mil if you have anything that you would like to see on the site. Check the site for yourself; it's www.forthuntsportsmen.com
Personal: We are in the slow season right now - post Valentine's Dance and pre-Nationals Tailgate. We would still appreciate your participation in our membership meetings every second Thursday of each month until we get out of the doldrums. Spring starts this Wednesday the 21st, so the warm days are almost here and fun Sportsmen's events will soon follow. Hang in there!
Thanks!
Joe Gililland
President, Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Association
