May 2007 Newsletter

Bob Beatty Award Dinner: Will be next Thursday, May 17th (PLEASE NOTE: this is not our usual 2nd Thursday dinner date) at the Mount Vernon Country Club. Cocktails will start earlier than usual - 6:30 with dinner at 7:30. We have some very special guests - one is Mara Perscheid and her family. Mara is the recipient of the 2007 Bob Beatty Award. And the other special guest is Mr. Willie Pile - our speaker. Willie is a West Potomac H.S. & Va. Tech graduate and an NFL veteran who has already spoken to the Sportsmen at the April Dinner Meeting at the Peking Duck. We need a big crowd for this event and would like to see all Sportsmen attend!

  • The Nationals Tailgate Party: Will be Saturday, June 2nd against the San Diego Padres. It's a 7:05 pm game, so that gives us an evening game with lots of time to tailgate in the afternoon. Vicki Binkley will fund the Tailgate Party again this year, our only real costs will be the cost of the tickets. Frank Gulino still has some tickets available - contact him at yajoe@aol.com . Frank and Lee Gilmore are helping us organize again this year. Cold beer, dogs and burgers will rule the day.

  • The April Membership Meeting: was at Peking Duck on Route One. A big Sportsmen's crowd came out to enjoy good food served family-style. Willie Pile joined us and gave a great impromptu speech about growing up in the area and how he came to form his Football Camp & Life Skills program. His message is a positive one; Check Willie's website @ www.pilegroup.com.

  • FHSA Website: We are always looking for new items for the Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Website. Contact Scott Daley, our webmaster @ scott.daley@navy.mil if you have anything that you would like to see on the site. We are establishing links to The Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association, FHSA sponsors and other related websites. Please check our website and share with others - especially those that may have an interest in joining our Club. It's www.forthuntsportsmen.com

  • The May Membership Meeting is the Bob Beatty Award Dinner mentioned above.

  • The June Membership Meeting will be the National's Tailgate party mentioned above. By July we will be back to our regular local restaurant rotation.

  • New Members - if you know of potential Club members, our monthly dinner meetings OR the Nationals Tailgate Party are the perfect opportunities to introduce them to the club and to some of the fun activities that we have. Check around - you probably have friends or neighbors that would fit right in with the club...ask them along to one of our events.

  • Personal: We have a lot of fun activities lined-up and we'd love to see everyone join in. Come out to the Tailgate Party and enjoy a free grilled lunch and some cooler-cold beverages of your choice. Summer vacation season will be here very soon and the Sportsmen's Board and Officers hope that you will be careful on your outings, but that you have fun at the same time. We'd like to see you return from your vacations in one piece. And it's not just because we need your membership fee each year...

    President, Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Association
