The July Membership Meeting: On Thursday, July 12th we will hold our dinner meeting at MIKE'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT on Route One. Please join us for cocktails at 7:00 and dinner at 8:00. Come on by for news, conversation and our usual shenanigans.
Sportsmen's Roster: The Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Member Roster is attached to this email. I'm re-sending the file in case anyone didn't receive or may have misplaced it. Please save the file to your computer and use it to stay in contact with your fellow Sportsmen. Or, print it out and keep it handy in your desk drawer.
Redskins & Nationals Raffle: THE RAFFLE SEASON is here! Jim Martin is our Raffle Chairman this year - and having chaired last year - I know he can use your help. Chick Little and John Crumplar started our raffle sales yesterday at the Waynewood 4th of July Neighborhood Event held at Waynewood Pool. Jim Martin will need your help with Saturday morning street sales and will need you to 'grab a stack' of raffle tickets to sell on your own. If you know of local businesses that will help with donations, contact us to coordinate. We'd like to have a BIG raffle season this year as this is our single, biggest source of income for the Club. So let's gear up and put together a great raffle season. Thanks! If you can help, contact Jim Martin at jmartin221@cox.net.
Tragic Beltway Accident Involving West Potomac Students: As many of you know, four young women lost their lives on the Capital Beltway on West Potomac's Graduation Night. Renee Shelkin and Lydia Petkoff played softball in FHYAA and at West Potomac. Craig Maniglia has been discussing with the school the possibility of the Sportsmen participating in a memorial to be built at the West Potomac Softball Field memorializing the young women killed in the crash. This is in the early stages and Fairfax County Public Schools has not yet been approached for approval. The Sportsmen are very interesting in contributing to this memorial once details have been established. As a side note, the Sportsmen contribute each year to the All-Night Graduation Party for West Potomac for a supervised party that is designed to keep graduating students off of the road. Obviously, our condolences go out to the families involved in this tragedy.
The Redskins Tailgate Party: Is tentatively set for Sunday, November 11th in an NFC East game against the Philadelphia Eagles. It is a 1:00 PM game. As he has so many times in the past, Robert Hines has agreed to coordinate the event, so mark your calendars and plan on participating. We will finalize the Tailgate Party date and notify you with details.
FHSA Website: The Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Website has been updated with newsletters and photos from the National's Tailgate party at RFK. Please click on the link below and take a look. Contact Scott Daley, our webmaster @ scott.daley@navy.mil if you have anything that you would like to see on the site. We are establishing links to The Fort Hunt Youth Athletic Association, FHSA sponsors and other related websites. Please check our website and share with others - especially those that may have an interest in joining our Club. It's www.forthuntsportsmen.com
New Members: If you know of potential Club members, our monthly dinner meetings are the perfect opportunities to introduce them to the club and to some of the fun activities that we have. Check around - you probably have friends or neighbors that would fit right in with the club...ask them along to our membership meeting on the 12th and have them meet the Sportsmen.
Personal: We're kicking-off the annual raffle season and would like your help in sales. If each Sportsmen could sell his share of tickets we could increase our raffle totals and have more funds to sponsor events in the 2007-2008 season. Your efforts go a long way in keeping our local youths happy & healthy and involved in sports. The FHSA Board and Officers hope that you had a great Fourth of July and hope that you enjoy the rest of the summer - see you at Mike's Italian Restaurant on Thursday the 12th!
Joe Gililland
President, Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Association
