December 2007 Newsletter

The next Sportsmen's Dinner Meeting will be Thursday, December 13th at Thai Herbs Restaurant. Cocktails will begin at 7 with dinner being served at 8 p.m. Currently we do not have a speaker lined up; however we are actively pursuing a local individual who has been active in the community for a number of years. More on this as it develops.
The Tailgate Party is Thursday, December 6th versus the Chicago Bears at 8:15. Robert Hines is coordinating. There are 16 confirmed for the event. Attendees should look for the blue pop-up tents and bring a dish to share. Starts at 5:30 - Green Lot, Light Post #72. Interested parties should contact Robert if they would like to join in. After the emotional tumult of the past week and the last minute loss to the Buffalo Bills, this week’s game will have added significance. Show your support of the Redskins, if you are attending the game, leave for the stadium early and join in the Tailgate festivities.

The Valentine’s Dance is set for Saturday, February 9th. Mount Vernon Country Club has confirmed our date. Lee Gilmore has confirmed the DJ. Price for the dance TBD, but will likely be the same as last year, $110 per couple. Robert Hines will be coordinating the door prizes for the event. Please give Robert a call if you wish to donate a door prize.

Jeff Dietze Retirement announced. Jeff has announced his retirement as the West Potomac High School Athletic Director. Jeff will be leaving at the end of January, 2008. The FHSA Board would like to recognize Jeff’s contributions to the Fort Hunt area at his Retirement Ceremony. Those of you who have known Jeff over the years are encouraged to send me a paragraph or two on some of the significant contributions he has made during the years. I will take what you have written and share them in an appropriate way either at his retirement. Please email me at jmartin221@cox.net or send your written comments to the above mailbox.

Once a director replacement is named, the Sportsmen will send a representative to welcome the new West Potomac Athletic Director and pay a ‘courtesy call’ to that individual to inform them about the club and of our long history of support to the school (Number 2 in financial support in over the years).

Jim Martin, President - 2008
