2007 Bob Beatty Award
Bob Beatty was a leader for the Fort Hunt Sportsmen for many years. He made so many contributions to the Club, that when he passed, the Club decided to sponsor an award in his name. The Bob Beatty Award is a competitive award presented to young athletes with outstanding personal achievements in sports, scholastics and in their dedication to the community. All these traits were valued by Bob Beatty and the Fort Hunt Sportsmen. The winner of the 2007 Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Bob Beatty Award was Mara Perscheid - a West Potomac High School student, where she not only excels in sports, but is a National Honor Society member who maintains a 3.95 Grade Point Average. At age 15, Mara was one of the youngest athletes ever in U.S. Taekwondo history to qualify for the U.S. Nationals Team Trials, where she won three elimination matches. Mara also volunteers locally in her neighborhood and for several local service organizations. Mara is an excellent example of what any Fort Hunt area youth athlete should strive to be and all of us will be cheering her on to qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Our other special guest is Mr. Willie Pile; a West Potomac H.S. & Va. Tech graduate and an NFL veteran who sponsors a youth-oriented Life Skills Program and Football Camp for young athletes. Willie was kind enough to provide a speech to the group and present the Bob Beatty Award to Mara.
Joe Gililland, President of the Fort Hunt Sportsmen's Association with the Perscheid Family. We were all very proud of Mara.
Mara and Joe share a light moment when Mara pulled a winning ticket for the award program's 50/50 raffle.
